Hawaii Five-Oh

I've never been to Hawaii. America with the oceans on all sides. It's practically Alaska, it's practically the Florida Keys. It's the stuff The Beach Boy's dreams are made of. (Well, that and California Girls.) Maybe I'll plan an adventure to Hawaii this year.
(How much does it cost to fly that far? Should I just go to Thailand instead?)

Okay, in the real world we live in Canada. And that means season foods.
Soup today is Roasted Root Vegetable with a goat cheese mousse.
(We have great cheese and nothing to complain about in gastronomy, just in weather)

Fun Sammies! AND NEWS!
All Sandwiches today will be on a white bread from Fred's Bread. We're waiting for our Sour Dough to Sour so enjoy this fresh, delicious bread while we have it.
Pulled Pork (on the pain rustique)
Sirloin Sandwich

And of course, a host of salads.

Dane says hi. He cooks at The Wine Bar next door and turned 25 yesterday.

See you soon,
Max

p.s. Mike, I'm sorry I'm late.

Tuesdays of October

As much as I'm not ready for Halloween (no costume, no ideas) I'm also not ready for November (no light winter boots, I have Sorels, but nothing for slushy sidewalks).
This morning as the clouds reflecting the-not-yet-risen sun broke though my curtains at about 7:20a I thought about how dark the dark will be. Dark.
Also, I'm wondering what you guys do to avoid the Winter Sad. Leave me some replies and let me know how you cope.

Today!

And what better way to help pretending but to hang out in this fine fall weather.

Today's lovely soup is Smoke Sausage & Beans Soup.

Grilled Eggplant Sandwich today replaces the Mushroom Sandwich. Same fine toppings with grilled eggplant replacing pan roasted mushrooms.

Happy Anniversay to the First World Series

Okay. I know, it's lame. But I struggle this early (yes, I work in cafe with lots of coffee and it still feels early) to come up with something creative for the blog. Something to distract you. Something to bring you away from you desk (in mind, then in body).
Did you know that today in 1903 the first game of the modern World Series was played between the Boston Americans and the Pittsburgh Pirates?
And in 1971 Walt Disney World opened in Florida.?
What a day.
(Segue...)
And what a day it is at Hank's.
Today's soup is a Coconut Vegetable Soup (Vegetarian Friendly).

We have Pulled Pork Sandwich on instead of the Flank Steak Sandwich and if you haven't had a chance to get back on the Mushroom Sandwich wagon you may as well. Everyone - all aboard the Mushroom Sandwich Wagon!

SaladSaladSalad!!

Grilled Lamb Pasta Salad (with roasted garlic and olives)
JK Tomato Salad
Niçoise Salad with Dijon Vinaigrette
Ontario Fruit Salad
